Enforcing Environmental Legislation
A 3-day residential modular course designed for officers either new to an enforcement role or to enforcing environmental legislation for the 1st time or with limited such experience. The course is designed to give an overview of all aspects of the role and parts will be tailored to suit the specific needs of the client.
Day 1
Will ensure delegates know the basics of investigating & enforcement options for an environmental offence. Delegates will be able to recognise offences, take appropriate basic enforcement action such as warnings, issue statutory notices and gather appropriate evidence to assist in an investigation for a prosecution.
Day 2
Moves on from the basics and looks at the legislation governing investigations to ensure officers comply with the rules, safeguarding the investigation from a possible legal challenge. The 2nd part of the day looks at interviewing both witnesses & suspects and some techniques to improve the information obtained. After this day delegates would be able to understand the rules governing an investigation for a prosecution and be able to carry out simple interviews in their investigations.
Day 3
Again builds on the knowledge already developed and provides an opportunity to develop some skills in running an investigation and preparing prosecution file. The 2nd part of the day is about being prepared to give
evidence in court.
