Meet the Speakers:
Gemma Buss, MCIWM, CRWM
Associate - Waste and Sustainable Management of Soils, AtkinsRéalis
Gemma is an Associate with eighteen years’ experience specialising in sustainable soil and waste and resource management. She has worked for consultancies, the Environment Agency and within the construction and utility sectors and has a strong technical knowledge, particularly in relation to CL:AIRE Definition of Waste Code of Practice (DoWCoP), waste legislation, environmental permitting and waste classification. Gemma has significant experience of planning and implementing the management of material re-use and waste on large scale projects including power stations, highways, flood defence schemes, railways, commercial developments and utilities. On her projects she drives the focus on the circular economy and application of the waste hierarchy.
Ed Brown, MCIWM, CRWM
Principal Consultant, AA Environmental Ltd
Ed is a Principal Waste Consultant at AA Environmental Ltd (AAe). Ed has over 12 years experience working on secondment within site teams on national highway and critical infrastructure construction schemes; as well as a consultant to the construction and waste industry. Ed primarily runs the Waste Permitting and Compliance Team at AAe. Ed's proficiency in advising on waste materials management, particularly through innovative techniques like soil washing, has made him a trusted advisor in the industry. Ed has been working with Clients and liaising with the Regulator on soil washing facilities since 2015.
Shane Davey, MCIWM, CRWM
Recovery & Recycling Manager South East Region, Tarmac
Shane is an experienced waste professional who has dealt predominantly with Construction Demolition and Excavation (CDE) waste quarry restoration and CDE recycling. He has worked on a number of projects where he has used his specialist knowledge to support on environmental compliance of waste management and help clients deliver a circular solution to their problems. Shane has worked within the Landfill and Recovery sector, with environmental consultancies and is currently the Recycling and Recovery manager for Tarmaccovering the south of the United Kingdom.
