Urbaser and Balfour Beatty (UBB) are partners in a joint venture to manage Gloucestershire’s household residual waste, having established a contract with Gloucestershire County Council in 2016.
The Gloucestershire Energy from Waste (EfW) facility became operational in October 2019 and uses thermal combustion to manage 190,000 tonnes of residual waste each year. The facility generates the equivalent electricity to power 25,000 homes, contributing to Gloucestershire’s overall renewable energy production. The facility diverts 90% of Gloucestershire’s residual waste from landfill and recovers aggregates and metals for recycling.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a CIWM West of England Professional Development Network (PDN) site visit to learn about a modern EfW facility.
