Michael 'Mike' Harvey – MCIWM. 16 March 1966 to Monday 29 January 2024
It is with immense sadness that CIWM has heard about Mike’s passing on 29 January 2024. Mike was a former member of CIWM’s Biological Treatment Group and I got to know him quite well over the years he attended and participated in the group meetings. Mike was friendly, considerate and always willing to assist where he could.
Mike joined CIWM in 1992, having completed his Honours Degree in Environmental Science from Queen Mary College (University of London) in 1988.
After his degree, Mike undertook a role as trainee manager at HSS Hire before joining Essex County Council as scientific officer at the end of 1988. He continued in this role up until his incorporation into CIWM as a Chartered Member in 1992, when he transferred to Cory Environmental as marketing development manager.
During his time at Cory Environmental, Mike became liquid waste transport manger, then business manager, followed by commercial manager from 1997 to 2000.
Mike has worked at P F Hearn (London) where he was Operations Director from 2016, Vetspeed from 2016 to 2020, Neales Waste Management 2022 and then at Ellgia Ltd.
In 2015, Mike joined CIWM’s Biological Treatment Special Interest Group, where he contributed to the work of the group with enthusiasm and shared his broad knowledge of the sector. Mike also transferred from London and Southern Counties Centre to East Anglia Centre in 2016.
At this sad time, our thoughts go out to his wife and family who have lost a warm, friendly and always smiling gentleman and our sector which has lost a valuable font of knowledge and great friend.
