Climate Change Adaptation

Overview
If you’re a Technically Competent Manager, it’s important that you consider whether a changing climate could affect your operations, including how it might affect your ability to comply with your permit.

If your permit was issued:

  • On or after 1 April 2023, you need to integrate climate change adaptation planning into your management system
  • Before April 2023, whilst your management system should already consider climate impacts, you need to complete a climate change adaptation risk assessment by 1 April 2024

Developed by leading industry experts, this 4-hour programme will equip you with the practical knowledge and skills you need to prepare your business operations for potential negative climate impacts and comply with these new regulatory requirements.

This comprehensive course covers:

  • Climate change: understand what climate change is, the differences between climate change mitigation and adaptation, and the vital role the resources and waste management sector can play in tackling the climate crisis.
  • Risk identification and mitigation: learn how to identify, plan for, and mitigate risks posed by climate change to operations, communities, and the environment and develop the practical skills you need to complete the risk assessment process required by the Environment Agency.
  • Adaptation methods: learn how to seamlessly integrate practical climate change adaptation into your operations.
  • Futureproofing: explore strategies to protect your operations against projected climate scenarios.

To get the most out of this course, we recommend completing the following CIWM micro-learning courses online in advance:
